                                   Dreamlivers,
those who have had the guts enough to live the life of their dreams.
Joseph Campbell built a lifetime of work on
the concept of heroes. His influence on
mankind cannot be denied. The statement
that he made that has had the greatest
impression on me is that; “you can tell about
a person by learning about his heroes”.
Joseph Campbell influenced George Lucas
also and Lucas went on to create the “Star
Wars” series.

I want you to learn about me to help you
determine whether my coaching will be of
benefit to you. On this page I am listing some
of my heroes and some of the reasons that
explain why I have selected them.

Viktor Frankl

I became aware of Dr. Frankl years ago when
I ran across his book, “Man’s Search for
Meaning” It chronicled the years that he
spent in four of Hitler’s concentration
camps. He started to write a manuscript of
his life’s work and when transferred to
Auschwitz he lost it. He had sown it into the
lining of his coat, but was forced to abandon
it. He began to rewrite it on scraps of paper
that he could find. He began to study his
fellow inmates and discovered the validity of
Friedrich Nietzsche’s statement: “He who
has a why to live for can bear almost any
how.” Frankl discover
ed his “why” in the
camps and survived. Those who had no
“why” died. Using his observations he
formed his own form of therapy that he
called logotherapy. He went on to have a
very productive life after the war. Remarried
and had a second family. Earned his pilot’s
license at the age of 67. A
Dreamliver. My
kind of guy.

Jimmie Doolittle

Was born in Alameda, CA where I grew up.
He was a pilot in the Signal Corps during
WWI and spent the war as a flight instructor.
He is best known for leading a flight of 16
North American B-25’s to bomb Japan in April
of 1942. They loaded on the USS Hornet
when it was moored at the Alameda Naval Air
Station earlier in the month. At that very
moment I was a senior at the Alameda High
School, just a few short miles from the air
station. For this attack he was awarded the
Medal of Honor by President Franklin
Roosevelt. He went on to command the 15th
Air Force in the Mediterranean Theater and
the 8th Air Force in Europe and in the
Pacific. I met him in the early 80's when he
was the Grand Marshall at the Watsonville
Antique Air Show. Now that was a thrill. A
Dreamliver.
Glen Cunningham
I remember when I was just a kid I heard about
him. When he was age 8 his legs were horribly
burned as a result of a fire in his one damaged
that several doctors considered amputation. This
gutsy eight year old determined that not only
would he walk again but he would run, and run he
did. He went on to attend Kansas State and
became one of the premiere milers of the 1930s.
He participated in the 1932 Olympics and also the
1936 Olympics. In 1938 he broke the world’s
record in the mile. I remember hearing that he
would have to arrive at the track very early and
run and run until the scar tissue softened so that
he could compete. Courage and determination
and a Dreamliver.

Marva Collins

She was a teacher in the Chicago public school
system .Her experiences in the system, coupled
with her dissatisfaction with the quality of
education that her two youngest children were
receiving in prestigious private schools,
convinced her that children deserved better
than what was passing for acceptable education.
That conviction led her to her decision to open
her own school on the second floor of her home.
She took the $5,000 balance in her school
pension fund and began her educational program
with an enrollment of her own two children and
four other neighborhood youngsters.

Thus, Westside preparatory School was founded
in 1975 in Garfield Park, a Chicago inner-city area.
During the first year, Marva took in learning
disabled, problem children and even one child
who had been labeled by Chicago public
authorities as borderline retarded. At the end of
the first year, every child scored at least five
grades higher proving that the previous labels
placed on these children were misguided. The
CBS program, 60 Minutes, visited her school for
the second time in 1996. That little girl who had
been labeled as border line retarded, graduated
in 1976 from college Summa Cum Laude. It was
documented on the 60 Minutes programs in 1996.
Marva’s graduates have entered some of the
nation’s finest colleges and universities such as
Harvard, Yale and Stanford, just to mention a few .
And, they have become physicians, lawyers,
engineers, educators, and entered other
professions. Another Dreamliver.

The American Hot Rod Designers and Builders
Throughout the world nothing says "America" like
The American Hot Rod. Few things embody the
Great American qualities of power, style,
resourcefulness and innovation, like The
American Hot Rod.
And few people represent the qualities of
Dreamlivers like the those individuals who
design and build these awesome works of art.
Their creations are a testament to the skill,
dedication, motivation and vision they share with
the greatest artists and sculptors of any period in
history.
Check back on this site from time to time
as I will be adding new heroes as I find
them. If you have any that you would like
